In Creative Writing workshops, kids and teens are given the space to work on and share their writing with a group of peers and an instructor—a published author or produced playwright. Over the course of five consecutive days, three hours each day, writers may find themselves drawn to any number of forms and genres, including fiction, personal narrative/memoir, playwriting, and screenwriting. We challenge writers to set and achieve their own writing goals, and all writers are encouraged to complete at least one well-developed, polished piece of writing by the end of the week. In addition to writing time, young writers participate in fun, productive writing games that help writers develop their craft, explore new genres, and better understand their characters and narratives.
Through our innovative workshop method, we empower kids and teens as peer leaders as they gain skills in writing, editing, analysis, and effective communication. Writopia Lab has established a community where young writers can find each other, connect via their literary passions, and have lots of fun!
Our Workshops are:
- fun, engaging, highly productive
- student-centered and author-led
- supportive, safe spaces where writers learn how to give and receive insightful feedback
