Twelve RPCS Student-Artists Earn Regional Honors
Earlier this month, 12 student-artists in Roland Park Country School’s Upper School earned 23 honors for their outstanding work from the regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This is the highest number of RPCS students in one year who have earned recognition from these prestigious awards, with four pieces winning Gold Key recognition and moving on to the national round.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7–12. Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have celebrated the vision and talent of creative teenagers and offer students the opportunities for recognition, exhibition publication and scholarships.
Presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and share their remarkable work with the world, the 2022 Maryland Art and Writing Region of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards received 3,000 pieces of work from 1,300 talented teens all across the state.
The visual arts curriculum at Roland Park Country School helps students deepen their imaginations and connections to the world around them and strengthens their abilities to articulate their ideas.
“I am so proud that our students’ hard work and talent has been recognized,” said Tracy Bracken, Upper School Visual Arts Teacher. “They’ve taken artistic risks and pushed beyond their comfort zones to really see where their creativity can take them.”
Award recipients receive Gold Key, Silver Key, or Honorable Mention. Below is a sampling of work from each of the 2022 regional award recipients from Roland Park Country School. These pieces will be on display at RPCS in the coming weeks.
