RPCS Welcomes Director of Track & Field
Director of Athletics Carol Hatton is pleased to announce that Patrick Donohue has been appointed Director of Track & Field for Roland Park Country School. As a newly established role at RPCS, the Director of Track & Field position provides comprehensive leadership across divisions for all three of our running programs – cross country, indoor track and track & field. In addition to his new role, Patrick will be teaching next year in the Upper School History Department and The Gore Leadership Institute. He has also worked diligently to create the REDS Track Club, a program launching this fall on campus that will provide year-round club running opportunities for children in our community.
“I am excited to announce this newly created role within RPCS Athletics,” said Carol Hatton. “Under Patrick’s leadership, I am confident that we will be able to marry the developmental programs that he has created with our interscholastic program to develop student-athletes into competitors and create a lifelong love of running.”
Patrick joined RPCS Athletics in 2019 as Assistant Track & Field Coach before being named Head Coach for the Varsity Cross Country program in June of 2021. He has over 20 years of coaching experience in cross country and track & field and is both a USA Track & Field Certified Level 1 Coach and Road Runners Club of America Certified Distance Running Coach.
“As Director of Track & Field, I hope to bring a ‘program approach’ to our teams,” said Patrick. “Success comes not just from good teams but a healthy and holistic running program that starts early. This approach incorporates our annual Red Hot Summer Running Camps and Middle School running program. Additionally, this fall we are starting the REDS Track Club, a club training and racing group for kids ages 7-14. All of these pieces will help to strengthen our Upper School teams and make RPCS the destination school for running in the Baltimore area.”
Prior to RPCS, Patrick was the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach for Notre Dame of Maryland University. In this role, he built the cross country program by managing the recruiting, training and competition of the team while also building both the cross country and track & field programs. From 2005-2015, Patrick was the Head Coach at Parkville High School for the varsity men’s cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field programs, where he had the privilege of coaching several state champions and coached multiple teams that were ranked in the top 10 of the state.
The Athletics Department would also like to thank Jason Ruby for his commitment to RPCS Track & Field and for growing the program over the past four years. We are excited about what lies ahead for our REDS!
