RPCS Announces New Varsity Field Hockey Head Coach
Roland Park Country School Director of Athletics Carol Hatton is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Blaum as the school’s Varsity Field Hockey Head Coach.
Elizabeth joined the RPCS community in the fall of 2021 as Associate Director of College Counseling and Assistant Field Hockey Coach. She succeeds RPCS alum and former Field Hockey Head Coach Liz Hamilton Fitzgibbon, 2008, who has embarked on a new business venture opening her Cross Fit gym in Ocean City, MD.
From 2012 to 2020, Elizabeth was the Head Field Hockey Coach at Virginia Episcopal School, leading their program to seven state quarterfinals, one state semifinal and one Blue Ridge Conference Championship. She coached three players who earned Blue Ridge Conference Player of the Year honors, as well as several all-conference and all-state athletes.
In her high school career at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, PA, Elizabeth played for Hall of Fame coach Karen Klassner. Her team went undefeated in her senior season, winning the PIAA State Championship and earning the rank of top high school team in the nation. Elizabeth went on to play at Ball State University where she earned the Edith A Patton award, given to a “defensive minded member of the team who displays integrity, courage, commitment, desire to be the best, and the ability to laugh at herself.” During her college career, Elizabeth also played with the Mid-West High-Performance Team each summer.
“Field hockey has always felt like a second home to me,” said Elizabeth. “As a coach, it is my goal to help my players feel at home on the field, while at the same time encouraging them to develop confidence and comfort in being uncomfortable. There is a lot in life we cannot control, but we can always control our effort, attitude and communication. This holds true far beyond the athletic field. I am really impressed with the student-athletes at RPCS and am so excited to see the group develop as teammates and students of the game.”
Elizabeth credits her coaches with significantly impacting the trajectory of her life from a young age and helping her to fall in love with the sport. That passion has been evident in her work over the past year with our REDS.
“Elizabeth’s passion for the sport of field hockey is contagious,” said Carol Hatton. “Her understanding of the game and ability to teach fundamentals as well as high level strategy is going to allow our team to take the next steps towards strengthening the program vying for an IAAM Championship.”
We are excited for Elizabeth to lead our girls in the upcoming season and hope all of you find the chance to welcome her to this role.
