RPCS Announces New Middle School Head

RPCS Announces New Middle School Head
RPCS is thrilled to announce the appointment of Margaret Lofgren as the next Middle School Head at Roland Park Country School, effective July 1, 2022. Margaret will join us from Foothill Country Day School, a co-ed independent school in Claremont, California, where she has served as an academic leader and teacher for almost 26 years. This decision was informed by many conversations with members of our parent, faculty and student search committees, as well as school administrators. Margaret will be an outstanding addition to the Roland Park Country School family and a strong advocate and leader for our Middle School students and faculty.

At Foothill Country Day School, Margaret has served as the Upper School Director (grades 6-8) since 2015, where she oversees the day-to-day operations of academic, athletic, advisory and art programs. Previously, she served as the Dean of the Upper School and Coordinator of Young Round Square of Americas (YRSA), both for five years. Margaret also taught 6th – 8th grade History and Latin for many years at Foothill Country Day School and started her career teaching 9th-11th grade History at Vivian Webb School, an all-girls school in Claremont, California. She understands the importance of having positive female role models and is excited to lead the next generations of young women to be strong in their convictions and actions.

Margaret earned her undergraduate degree in History from Georgetown University, where she was also a scholar-athlete in cross country and track, and her M.A. in Secondary Social Studies Education from Teachers College at Columbia University. Margaret’s husband is a paleontologist and they have two adult daughters. She is ready to return to the East Coast to be closer to both her children and her aging parents. Margaret is an outdoor enthusiast and loves to run, walk and hike.

In Margaret’s own words: “I am both thrilled and honored to become Roland Park Country School's next Middle School Head. The emphasis on empowering girls to become lifelong learners, who will serve and improve their communities as people of empathy, integrity and character, truly excites me. I cannot wait to meet the students and their families and begin to collaborate with the faculty, staff and leadership team who make RPCS such a welcoming and engaging community.”

A huge thank you to our faculty search committee led by Nadine Richards, as well as our parent and student committees. These groups worked tirelessly over the past several months to find the best fit for our Middle School. On behalf of all of us at RPCS, we are so grateful for the significant time and effort you all put into this extensive process and are delighted with the result!

Also, our deepest thanks to Verna Mayo, our outgoing Head of the Middle School, for her 25 outstanding years of service. We look forward to finishing out the school year with her and wish her all the best when she retires this summer.

We are incredibly fortunate and excited for what lies ahead! When Margaret and her husband arrive this summer, please join us in giving them a warm welcome to Roland Park Country School!
