New Arts Certificate of Distinction at RPCS

New Arts Certificate of Distinction at RPCS

Roland Park Country School is pleased to announce a new Arts Certificate of Distinction that recognizes RPCS Upper School students who pursue pre-professional advanced training in dance, music, theater, or visual art, alongside a robust interdisciplinary academic curriculum that encourages them to think critically and creatively.

Our rising seniors, the Class of 2023, will pilot this program for the 2022-2023 school year. The Arts Certificate of Distinction will be awarded in conjunction with an RPCS diploma. The successful recipients will demonstrate a high- quality, advanced proficiency in one or more areas of the arts and a strong capacity for creative problem solving. There is no additional fee required, just a consistent demonstration of mastery in the art, strong core values and citizenship, and a positive impact on the RPCS community.

“We wanted to create a program that recognizes the passion, dedication and unique artistic journeys of our RPCS students that go above and beyond the arts requirement,” said Annie Short, Performing Arts Department Chair and Middle and Upper School Dance Teacher. “This certificate highlights the wonderful arts programming we offer at RPCS and will help cultivate a lifelong involvement and appreciation of visual and performing arts.”

To earn this distinction, students must complete eight semester-long arts courses and one year of a full-time advanced level arts course or six semester-long arts courses and two years of a full- time advanced level arts course, earning a minimum cumulative arts average of 90%. Additionally, students must complete a department-approved apprenticeship, internship, or service-learning project, as well as a digital arts portfolio. Seniors will write an Artistic Reflection and present their Capstone Project. Participation in numerous performances/exhibits throughout high school is required to showcase their talent mastery.

We are excited to launch this program next school year and celebrate our student artists’ talents and commitments in the arts!  For more information, including eligibility, requirements, and instructions on how to apply for the Arts Certificate of Distinction at RPCS, please visit www.rpcs.org/arts-certificate.
