Come learn about the exciting new world of 3D printers! As an introduction to the basics of 3D printing and design students will explore a variety of 3D printer capabilities with a special focus on the MakerBot® Replicator. You will learn the basics of 3D design and will use software to create a 3D model that you will take home. In addition, students will engage in a variety of fun engineering design challenges that promote team building, learning and fun!
NOTE: Students must have access to an email account and must know the login information to create accounts for the various design programs. Please bring a bottle of water and a healthy snack each day.
Ages 8 - 14 June 25 – June 29 1:00 - 4:00 $225 Led by RPCS Technologist, Aisha Bryant
Learn to design, build, and program robots using LEGO’s robotics technology – the powerful MINDSTORMS® EV3. Campers will work as a team to complete projects and games created specifically for EV3. Explore the many digital sensors the MINDSTORMS® EV3 robots have to offer like, a seven-state color-light sensor, gyro sensors, touch sensors and an improved ultrasonic sensor. Campers will leave with an understanding of the Engineering Design Process and the skills needed to build and program robots.

Ages 7 - 12 July 16 – July 20 9:00 - 12:00 $225 Led by Silver Knights Enrichment Instructors
In Silver Knights Coding Camp, children learn to create stories, games, and animations using a visual programming language called Scratch. It’s as easy to use as snapping together building blocks! With Scratch, children learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. Scratch is designed and maintained by the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab. Our curriculum teaches new coders the basics while challenging more experienced coders to create increasingly complex programs. Silver Knights provides a laptop for every child. At the end of the week, each child takes home a T-shirt and a USB with all their programs on it!
Environmental Science Summer Research Experience for Young Women (E.S.S.R.E.)
Now in its 18th year, E.S.S.R.E. is a unique, nationally recognized three-week research internship available to all high school girls from the greater Baltimore area. Participants explore the soil chemistry and organisms of the Roland Park Country School woodland campus, experience how to engage in self-directed field research and learn a wide range of general research skills such as statistical analyses and writing peer-reviewed scientific papers. Working in research teams, the interns also learn how to author lab activities for studying soil ecology in other settings and they design web pages to disseminate these labs via the program’s website. For their time and training, each intern receives a stipend of $500.
To learn more about the program, visit http://essre.rpcs.org and if interested in applying, contact the Project Director, David Brock, at email@example.com. Prerequisites include a year of high school biology or environmental science with a grade of “B” or better, successful completion of the ninth grade, and a letter of nomination from a science teacher. Deadline for applying is April 27, 2018. Space in the program is limited.
NOTE: Acceptance to E.S.S.R.E. is highly competitive and requires a separate application submitted through the Program Director.
