Introduction to Rowing

  • Ages 9-13, 9:00–12:00, $225

    Led by Director of Rowing at RPCS, David Rosen

    Looking to learn a new sport? Try rowing at the RPCS indoor rowing center!
    Participants will learn the basics of both sweep rowing (one oar) and sculling (two oars), using our fleet of Concept 2 Indoor Rowers and our eight-station indoor rowing tank. Instruction will include technique as well as games, training tips, and more.
    Note: David Rosen began his rowing career in Oxford, England at Keble College Boat Club, and continued at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. David has 21 years of experience as a coach at the high school, club, and collegiate level, (with 14 of those seasons with RPCS.) David holds a Level III/Advanced coaching certificate from USRowing.

Learn to Row

    Have you always wanted to learn to row? Discover the basics of the world’s oldest intercollegiate sport in our indoor training center.     Challenger Sports' British Soccer Camp is the most popular soccer camp in the country based upon one of the most innovative approaches to coaching youth soccer in the US and Canada.Our experienced International staff study the game at all levels and will help players improve their core techniques and become more confident on the ball. 
    With programs for each age, the curriculums includes a variety of foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, freestyle soccer, small-sided games and coached scrimmages.World Cup style games are held each day where campers compete for their adopted country and are encouraged to learn about different customs and cultures, and our core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership.

     

REDS Volleyball Camp

    Red Hot Volleyball Camp is designed to meet the needs of athletes in Grades 6-12. This clinic focuses on all aspects of the game with the emphasis on fundamentals. Skill development will be emphasized during three hour sessions of on-court instruction in the following areas: serving, serve receiving, passing, setting, attacking, and blocking. 
    Competitive drills will allow players to put these skills into practice. Additional skills including jump float serving, jump attack serving, swing blocking, specialty passing options, and reading the hitter and block will be reviewed as needed based on skill level.

    Offered this summer at the RPCS Watkins Tennis Complex, The Tennis Institute has, for the past 40 years, trained players from beginners to Wimbledon champions in their summer camps. 
    Lenny Scheuermann and Thiha Htwar provide methods which include the best of group teaching methods combined with realistic goal-setting training in a “You Can Do It” atmosphere. Tennis with The Tennis Institute is a fun learning experience that can last a lifetime.

    Ready to get serious about your training? Join us for a week of workouts in the indoor rowing center, with a focus on improving fitness and rowing technique. Sessions will include workouts on the Concept 2 Indoor Rowers, rowing tank drill sessions, and individual video analysis of technique.

RED HOT LACROSSE

    Led by Aloha Tournaments

    Red Hot Lacrosse Camp is an instructional half-day academy for girls and boys currently in the 1
    st through 6th grades. The curriculum is designed to teach fundamental concepts and skills to youth players looking to learn the game and develop their abilities. The camp will be split into separate girls and boys groups and players will receive personalized instruction based on age and skill level. The camp will be run in conjunction with Aloha Lacrosse, a national leader in youth boys and girls lacrosse events and player development.
    The girls camp will be directed by the RPCS Varsity Head Coach Kim McNemar, along with star alumnae and current Varsity players from RPCS. The boys camp will be directed by Gilman Varsity Head Coach Brooks Matthews, along with several college lacrosse all-stars and club coaches from the Baltimore area. Our experienced staff will help players improve their skills and confidence throughout the course of the camp. We will also provide the campers with techniques and drills to work on at home so that they can continue to get better even after the camp is over. We will end each morning’s session with fun, competitive games designed to build on the skills taught that day.

Silver Knights Chess

    Spend a week of camp playing and learning about chess from the Silver Knights chess coaches! Our coaches are highly-rated professional chess instructors. Campers are broken up into groups by skill level, so we accept anyone from total beginners through experienced tournament players. 
    Each camper will receive a T-shirt and a tournament-style chess set. Activities include learning openings, tactics, endgames, studying master games, playing games against fellow students, and analyzing the students’ games. Campers will take periodic breaks for snacks and fresh air.

Ultimate Watersports at Gunpowder Falls State Park

    Led by Ultimate Watersports Center

    For kids who love the water and seek high adventure, this program offers windsurfing, kayaking stand up paddle boarding and catamaran sailing! Classes will be taught by certified instructors from Ultimate Watersports Center, located in the Hammerman area of Gunpowder State Park, where the Gunpowder River meets the Chesapeake Bay. 
    Campers will learn the essential skills of these exciting Watersports while gaining an understanding of water safety, team building, and fun.
     
    Note: Transportation from RPCS will be provided; school bus will depart promptly at 9:00 am, Equipment for all activities is provided. Please bring a lunch.
