A community rooted in traditions

Traditions are an important and meaningful part of the Roland Park Country School experience. Our traditions foster a sense of community and belonging that are unique to our school and reinforce our shared core values. Check out some of the most beloved traditions that students, families, alumnae, and faculty and staff treasure year after year.

Opening Day Convocation

Started in the 1980s, Opening Day Convocation is a fun, energetic and spirited celebration in the beginning of the new school year with an emphasis on celebrating our senior class. The entire school gathers in the Athletic Center where the senior class opens the celebration with a dance routine they worked to perfect over the summer.  The entire community participates in sing-alongs and enjoys performances from our auditioned ensemble groups, the Roses Repertory Dance Company, Semiquavers, and Footlights Theatre Ensemble.  Our Student Government Association President and Head of School share inspiring words to set the tone for the school year.

Halloween

We take Halloween seriously at RPCS! Our Lower School students participate in parades to show off their costumes to families, older students, employees and alumnae and they enjoy singing Halloween songs together, including “Hodge Podge Halloween.” Middle and Upper School students enjoy trick or treating and dress up as well and seniors choose a theme to coordinate group costumes which they parade in front of the Upper School. During Upper School meeting, the Roses Repertory Dance Company performs a routine set to popular Halloween songs and the faculty join in for a number. All members of the community can enjoy The Haunted Trail, a spooky interactive experience in our Backwoods that is led by the Footlights Theatre Ensemble.

Holiday Fair

The annual RPCS Holiday Fair has been a beloved, inclusive and festive event for decades. Organized by the Parents’ Association with the support of our student and parent communities, this event helps the RPCS community to kick off the winter holiday season. There is fun for the whole family, including food, games, shopping and entertainment. Highlights include extraordinary raffle baskets, unique cakes for purchase, and a wide selection of local and small business vendor booths.

Think Pink Walk

Started in the Lower School in 2016 by then third grader Lala B., 2026, Think Pink Day at RPCS has evolved into a schoolwide fundraiser.  Students from all divisions dress in pink and purchase baked goods, with all proceeds donated to The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. The fun culminates with an All School Walk, where each of the younger girls are paired with an older student for a walk around campus, ending with a healthy snack donated by Dennis Graul and Graul’s Market. Our girls love supporting an important cause, while leading for the greater good and building community.

Feel the Joy Convocation

Celebrating. Singing. Dancing. Smiling. The all-school Feel the Joy Convocation is the epitome of our beloved RPCS culture! The entire school comes together to honor employees who have exemplified a passion and love for RPCS, as well as those who are celebrating milestone years of service and who are retiring at the end of this school year. It includes beautiful  singing and dancing performances, including multiple performances that combine the talents of both Upper School and Lower School artists.

Field Day

In May, students from every division, including Little Reds, enjoy a festive and competitive field day! Students are divided into teams as they compete in tug of war, water relays, obstacle courses, soccer, a dunk tank, and more. It’s always a fun way to wrap up the school year and enjoy sunshine (and maybe some Kona ice) with friends.
