Cross Divisional Programming

Cross Divisional Programming

As a school under one roof, RPCS takes immense pride in the multiple ways our girls across divisions collaborate on projects together.

GIFTING BACK TO BALTIMORE

RPCS is a partner school for The Village of Cross Keys’ Gifting Back to Baltimore initiative. Led by Lower School Art Teacher, Holly McAslan, P’18, Lower, Middle, and Upper School visual art students and faculty collaborated with Upper School Gore Leadership Institute students to produce a gift box decorated as a Baltimore City block of rowhouses. The idea of the many, connected houses in one block tied into the School’s theme for the year, we are many, we are one. Lower school artists chose RPCS’s partner charity, the Maryland SPCA. The windows and exteriors of the rowhouses were decorated for the holidays and populated by dogs and cats from the SPCA. RPCS is proud that the SPCA received a $2,500 donation from Cross Keys as a result of this cross-divisional community collaboration. RPCS is thrilled to continue our partnership with The Village of Cross Keys and the Maryland SPCA this year. Gifting Back to Baltimore: Shaking Up the Holidays was launched in September, and our 3rd and 4th grade students have been hard at work. Once again, visual artists and Gore Leadership Institute students from all three divisions will contribute to the design and creation of our project. Inspired by Lower School Art Teacher Holly McAslan, P’18’s Kent Summer Sabbatical to France, this year’s project is meant to transport the viewer to Giverney, France.

SHARK TANK 3.0

Like the TV show Shark Tank, but better! Upper School students mentor RPCS 2nd grade students in social entrepreneurship. Tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students apply for this spring semester elective that coincides with second grade social studies.  All students develop their entrepreneurial mindset and skills as they work in teams to identify existing problems in the School community and brainstorm solutions. Using the principles of human centered design, the cross divisional teams of students prototype solutions and present them to the RPCS Sharks (administrators and Pepper the Bear!).
