Middle School Visual Arts Overview

In Middle School art, students have fun while engaging in serious, meaningful artistic work. The studio is a dynamic space for exploration, observation, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving. Students learn to think and act like artists, with growing opportunities each year to build skills and make more independent artistic choices.

From the start of fifth grade, where students develop foundational techniques and explore core artistic ideas, to the end of eighth grade, where students create a unique body of work reflective of her personal voice, our artists grow as both individuals and creators. The curriculum emphasizes student choice, contemporary art practices, and a wide range of diverse artist exemplars and role models. This approach empowers every student to find confidence in her creativity and celebrate her unique perspective during her pivotal Middle School years.
