Middle School Advisories

In each grade, a team of core teachers share responsibility for mentoring the girls by serving as advisors. Each student is assigned to an advisory group of about ten to twelve girls, and this group becomes her “home base” for support and community. The advisor’s job is to be the primary advocate for his or her advisees, get to know them personally and academically, help them with organization and study skills, communicate with parents on conference day and other times as needed, and facilitate each girl’s growth toward independence.

Monthly character lessons on good citizenship, responsibility, embracing diversity, communication, confidence building, perseverance, respect/integrity, leadership, and transitions are led by each advisor and carefully crafted to meet the developmental needs of students at each grade level. Fifth and sixth grade students begin and end each day with their advisor. These additional check-ins provide added touch points in order to provide scaffolds, check-ins, and community time to assist them in academic and student life.

In addition, the advisor serves as the first point of contact for parents. Parent-advisor conferences are scheduled twice a year, in the fall and the spring. Parents may contact their daughter’s advisor if they have concerns or to request a conference at any other time during the year.
