Big Ideas in 8th grade include:
- Studying and applying transformational geometry: rigid, congruence, dilations, and similarity
- Expanding and applying their understanding of proportional reasoning and relationships
- Expressing linear relationships using equations, tables, and graphs, and making connections across these representations.
- Identifying characteristics of functions by looking at a table, graph, equation, or word problem.
- Identifying characteristics of linear and nonlinear relationships by looking at a graph, table, equation, or word problem
- Expanding their ability to work with linear equations in one and two variables.

The mathematical work for Grade 8 is broken into 9 units. Students in the advanced sections have a hybrid curriculum based on the Illustrative Math 8th grade curriculum and the Phillips Exeter Academy Math 1 Algebra/Geometry curriculum.
