Seventh grade mathematics is a course designed to build on the concepts learned in sixth grade math and prepare students for the mathematics in the eighth grade course. Basic mathematical and problem-solving skills continue to be emphasized while preparing for the skills needed in algebra.
Big Ideas in Grade 7 include:
- Drawing figures to scale and computing scale factor;
- Identifying proportional relationships and constant of proportionality
- Representing proportional relationships in tables,graphs, and equations
- Sketching and interpreting graphs that describe real-world situations
- Writing, simplifying, and evaluating variable expressions
- Exploring and developing an understanding of probability, data analysis and statistics concepts
- Exploring three-dimensional structures as they explore surface area and volume
- Finding measurements and characteristics of circles
- Extending and applying knowledge of proportional relationships as it relates to situations involving mixtures, recipes, unit price, discounts, speed, and unit conversions
- Developing an understanding of rational numbers and operations with integers
- Investigating angle relationships in 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional figures and objects
