2nd Grade Math

In second grade, students deepen their number sense and strengthen their understanding of mathematical patterns and relationships through problem-solving and hands-on exploration in the Math in Focus curriculum. They practice flexible thinking as they work with increasingly complex numbers and operations, learning to add and subtract within 1,000 and to solve two-step word problems with confidence. Students also explore real-world applications of math by solving problems involving bills and coins, and by writing and interpreting addition and subtraction equations and expressions. These experiences build accuracy, reasoning, and confidence as students prepare for more advanced concepts in later grades.
