Latin 8
This course introduces eighth-grade students to the fundamentals of the Latin language and the rich cultural heritage of ancient Rome. Students will develop a foundation in Latin grammar and vocabulary, with a focus on understanding how Latin connects to English and other modern languages. Through reading and translation of simple passages, students will learn to recognize word patterns, roots, and structures that enhance both language skills and critical thinking.
In addition to language study, the course explores Roman culture, history, and geography. Students will examine daily life in ancient Rome, key myths and legends, and the influence of Roman civilization on art, government, architecture, and law. Geographical study will include the city of Rome and the broader regions of the Roman Empire, helping students understand the reach and legacy of Roman society.
