English 7
English 7 students, having developed a strong foundation in reading, writing and analysis through their first half of Middle School, are poised to dive deeper into more challenging texts that explore the seventh grade theme of identity and increase their independence and choice within their literature and writing schemas. Students review the necessary components of literary analysis paragraphs and annotation skills and swiftly move into using their class novel as a basis for deepening their understanding of theme, plot, character development and selecting evidence to best support their ideas. The writing process focuses on analytical writing and honing skills such as thesis writing and quote integration for support. Students write both analytical paragraphs and essays as well as short stories, book reviews, character sketches and more to help them achieve mastery in both written and spoken English skills. Students also work on vocabulary and grammar skills to enhance the fluency of their reading and writing. Students also begin to engage in more cross-curricular projects with history and library skills as they prepare to transition to eighth grade and beyond.
