Acting for the Camera

Acting for the Camera is a semesterly course that meets in the Spring of eighth grade. In this engaging, hands-on course, students will explore the unique skills required for on-camera performance. Through focused work on movement, eye line, vocal expression, and framing, students will learn how acting for the screen differs from stage performance. We'll also dive into the basics of accessible filmmaking—learning how to set up and use simple equipment to tell compelling visual stories. Students will rehearse monologues and scenes with an emphasis on clarity and presence, culminating in a mini film festival featuring original “5-Line Films” created within specific creative guidelines. This course builds confidence, creativity, and camera-ready skills in a fun, collaborative environment.
