3rd & 4th Grade World Language
3rd and 4th Grade World Language - Two years of Spanish or French
In third grade, we introduce the Symtalk method, a visual learning technique in which words are represented by images, allowing students’ brains to effectively grasp the meanings of a variety of words in the context of complete sentences. This method helps students learn parts of speech and sentence structures, as well as a variety of vocabulary that will enhance comprehension, speaking, and reading skills. Students will also continue to build awareness and appreciation of multiple cultures by studying the art, music, and traditions of the Spanish or French-speaking contries.
In fourth grade, World Language instruction continues with the Symtalk method, in which words are represented by images, allowing students’ brains to absorb the meanings of a variety of words in the context of complete sentences. In fourth grade, we learn additional vocabulary and build on existing grammatical knowledge. Sentences of greater complexity are introduced and practiced. Speaking, reading, and writing skills are practiced and reinforced. Students continue to be exposed to the exciting traditions, art, and food of Spanish or French-speaking countries.
