Cultivating Community Outside our Classroom Walls

At Roland Park Country School, we are committed to building a brighter future for our children and are deeply connected to our local community.
We also work with our students to help them understand their roles in effecting positive change. All of our Upper School students complete community service hours.
Our community outreach efforts began over a decade ago, when we first opened our campus to summer public school enrichment programs like Superkids and Reader’s Camp. Motivated by a desire to expand opportunities for girls in Baltimore City, RPCS developed ongoing programs that deepened learning and community engagement.
Lillie May Carroll Jackson School
RPCS established the Lillie May Carroll Jackson School, a public charter school in Baltimore City serving girls in grades 5–8, becoming the first independent school in the nation to be approved to open a charter school. In the past, students from both schools connected throughout the year for joint programs that promoted learning, leadership, and community. We look forward to renewing these opportunities in the near future.
Baltimore’s Educational Scholarship Trust
RPCS partners with the Baltimore Educational Scholarship Trust (B.E.S.T.) in a longstanding collaboration to host the five-week Summer Scholars Program. The program brings together rising students in grades 6–9 who will attend independent schools in the fall. Through engaging academic enrichment and leadership development experiences, this partnership helps prepare and position students for success in their next educational journey.
National Network of Schools in Partnership
RPCS serves as a founding member of the National Network of Schools in Partnership, an organization that provides implementation support, thought leadership, and advocacy to public, charter and private schools, educational access and enrichment programs, and policy and education reform groups.
Middle Grades Partnership
RPCS is a longstanding partner of the Middle Grades Partnership (MGP), an organization that unites public and private school communities to create meaningful learning experiences for Baltimore students. RPCS and the former Garrison Middle School first came together to launch Growing Girls and Gardens, a program that blended academics with hands-on learning in gardening, science, reading, writing, art, and dance. In later years, RPCS continued this work in partnership with its sister school, Lillie May Carroll Jackson. Today, the MGP partnership fosters leadership, sisterhood, and academic confidence, nurturing students’ continued growth as scholars and citizens.
