Our application process for Kindergarten and first grade applicants includes both an individual assessment with our Lower School Testing Coordinator, Shana Ward, Ph.D. and the submission of two short videos.
AssessmentsThe individual assessment allows us to learn more about your daughter's skills and abilities. We have found that the girls really enjoy these activities. The assessment will last approximately one hour.
Because of COVID-19, we recognize the need for flexibility in our approach to conducting our admissions assessments. Therefore, we are offering families the choice of either an in-person assessment or a virtual assessment. Once you have submitted your daughter’s application, our office will contact you to schedule the assessment. Please discuss any special circumstances or concerns at that time.
The in-person assessment will follow all RPCS classroom precautions including mask wearing, physical distancing, using hand sanitizer as needed, and cleaning/sanitizing test materials.
On the day of testing, all applicant families will complete a COVID-19 health questionnaire upon entering RPCS. As an extra precaution, your child will also have her temperature taken. For the safety of all applicants and the RPCS community, please note that there may be travel restrictions in place at the time of your child’s testing. Please contact the admissions office with any questions about current travel restrictions.
The virtual assessments require a secure internet connection and a personal tablet (e.g. iPad) or desktop/laptop computer. The use of a smartphone is not recommended as it will be difficult for your child to view the testing materials. We ask that a parent/guardian or other adult be present during these assessments to assist with the testing process, and that your daughter has a private, quiet place to complete the activities.
Help us get to know your daughter! We are requesting that you send us two short videos (about one minute each) that will enable us to learn more about your daughter’s interests and personality. This is not meant to be stressful and we are not looking for “perfect” videos! We are hoping that creating these videos is a fun activity for you and your child. More information will be provided once you have applied. All videos must be submitted by January 15, 2021.
All applicants to grades 2 through 4 are invited to attend one of our group testing dates at RPCS on either Saturday, November 21, 2020 or Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. You will be able to register for a test date once you have submitted your child’s application.
During the group assessment, RPCS Lower School faculty and admissions staff will administer standardized ability and achievement tests. Applicants will also complete a writing task.
With your written permission, we will be happy to share your child’s assessment results with other schools. If your child cannot attend testing at RPCS on either November 21or January 9, you have the option of registering for testing at another school. Please be sure to request that your child’s test results be sent to the RPCS Admissions Office.
During testing sessions, all RPCS COVID-19 safety precautions will be followed including mask wearing, physical distancing, and using hand sanitizer as needed. In addition, all applicant families will be required to complete a COVID-19 health questionnaire upon entering RPCS. For the safety of all applicants and the RPCS community, please note that there may be travel restrictions in place at the time of your child’s group assessment date. Please contact us in the Admissions Office with any questions regarding current travel restrictions.
Because of COVID-19, we recognize the need for flexibility in our approach to conducting our admissions assessments. Should the school need to cancel the group testing date(s) because of factors related to COVID-19, or should an applicant be unable to test in the group setting because of individual health concerns or circumstances, we would be happy to discuss an alternative assessment option. Please contact Shana Ward, Lower School Testing Coordinator, with any questions or concerns.
