Interested in learning more about the field of medical research, Annie Ho, 2021, was able to gain some experience in the field with a summer internship shadowing Dr. Elizabeth Tucker, an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins Medicine, who is an attending physician for children in the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

During her internship, Annie learned about Dr. Tucker’s research on neuroinflammation related to central nervous system tuberculosis. She sat in on virtual lab meetings to hear Dr. Tucker and her team discuss their developments and gained understanding about how a lab is run and the collaboration that is involved with conducting research, analyzing reports and reporting findings.

“Even though I could not go to the labs in person, this internship was an amazing opportunity for me to see how medical research is conducted and I am grateful for the opportunity,” said Annie. “It even gave me the experience to do a little research on my own!”
