PhysEd classes and the Fitness Center

Physical Education at RPCS

Early in the Lower School, classes in physical education focus on the students' physical development, coordination and competence. Later, classes introduce the girls to team activities and skills and provide them with a balance of the excitement of team play and the pride of individual accomplishment. Physical education classes at the Lower School level also cover topics related to health and fitness.

At the Middle School level, the physical education program includes both team and individual sports for classes. Activities include hockey, soccer, volleyball, a ropes course, basketball, health, lacrosse, and more. Students have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular athletics in addition to physical education classes. The athletic and outdoor education programs offered at this level focus on skill development and the value of team play.

In the Upper School, students in the 9th and 10th grades are enrolled in physical education classes during the school day. Juniors and seniors meet their physical education requirements by choosing one of several options, thus providing choice while still encouraging the development of an active lifestyle. Among the activities offered at the Upper School level include badminton, folk dance, golf, personal fitness, squash, tennis, self defense, and more.

Fitness Center

In addition to the School's extensive teams and classes in physical education, there is also a Fitness Center at RPCS, open to students five days a week, with equipment ranging from Lifecycles, Stairmasters and treadmills, to multi-station weight machine, free weights and more. A staff Fitness Trainer is available to work with students and help them design a fitness program, and an Athletic Trainer is also available to work with students who have athletic injuries.

If you have any questions about RPCS's athletics programs, you can contact the Director of Athletics.
