All of the levels seek to generate appreciation, competition
and healthy work ethics towards improving team and individual
skills. Sportsmanship and courtesy are encouraged throughout
all levels of play.
The RPCS athletic program is voluntary and all-inclusive
with the exception of cuts due to facilities restrictions.
Practices are held after school and, in most cases,
at the school. RPCS competes in the Interscholastic
Athletic Association of Maryland. All levels, except
Varsity and in some cases Junior Varsity, provide equal
opportunity for practice and play in games as long as
students meet team requirements. The exception for equal
playing time at the junior varsity level takes place
when a 3rd squad exists for that sport.
Upper School Teams
The Upper School provides opportunities for students
to compete at the Varsity, Junior Varsity and 3rd Squad
levels. Varsity teams are for students who have the
highest level of athletic maturity. Junior Varsity is
for students who are not quite ready for the Varsity
team. 3rd Squad is composed of students who are not
quite ready for Junior Varsity level and students who
want to participate at a less demanding level. Varsity
and Junior Varsity commitments are at least 5 days a
week for at least 2 hours a day. 3rd Squad commitments
are for at least 4 days a week for about 1.5 hours.
Middle School Teams (7th & 8th Grades)
The Middle School provides opportunities for students
to compete at the A, B & C Squad levels. A Teams are
for students who have the highest level of athletic
maturity. B level is for students who are not quite
ready for A level of competition. C is for students
who are not quite ready for the B team. All teams commit
to at least 1 hour, 4 days a week.
6th Grade Teams
All students in the 6th grade are eligible to play on
the teams with the exception of basketball. Practices
take place during activity periods and games are scheduled
on a limited basis after school.
