A Message from the Head of School

Dear Guest,

Welcome to the Roland Park Country School website!
As you explore this web space, you will learn about the breadth and depth of academic and extra-curricular offerings that make this School such a vibrant place to teach, learn and grow.

RPCS is a college preparatory school for girls dedicated to the intellectual, aesthetic, physical and moral development of its students. Our mission is to maintain high academic standards while encouraging self-discipline, independence of thought, tenacity of purpose, creativity and spiritual well-being. The School strives to instill in its students a lifelong love of learning as well as the motivation to look within and beyond themselves in order that they become responsible, contributing members of college and community life.

This is an exciting time as we begin Roland Park Country School's second century. To ensure that the quality of our curriculum and level of academic excellence continue, RPCS recently completed a building project which expanded and improved the School facilities. These changes increased our building size by 33 percent and will positively impact each student for years to come. The Lower School addition added a multi-purpose room and space to relocate the Killebrew Library. A four-story addition to the academic building houses newly designed, state-of-the-art science laboratories for all three divisions, provides a distinct physical space for the Smith Middle School and offers new and expanded dining facilities. Renovations to the existing School created additional classrooms and meeting spaces, especially for the Upper School, space for technology and work areas for faculty. We broke ground in the spring of 2000, and dedicated the new facilities as part of our Centennial Celebration on October 6th, 2001. In April 2007, we embarked upon the third and final phase of the RPCS Campus Master plan by begining construction of a new Athletic Complex. The new facility will be completed in August 2008.

I hope you share my enthusiasm for this wonderful institution. Our students remain among the most academically talented in the region and attend many of the nation's most selective colleges and universities. RPCS offers advanced technology, seven foreign languages, thirteen advanced placement courses, more than ninety electives for seniors, visual and performing arts, and thirteen varsity sports. The School is proud of its superb academic program, award-winning faculty, financial strength, championship athletic teams and outstanding arts facilities.

On these pages, you will find a wealth of information about our School. Once you have taken a "virtual tour" of our campus, I hope you will visit us in person.

Sincerely,

Jean Waller Brune
Head of School
